๐Ÿ“I kind of got on a foot/shoe thing today... so I figured it’s a good time to start from the basics: what kind of shoes and when? . ✈️Without complicating things too much, choosing the correct footwear comes down to the type of activity and movement you're doing. There are also individual variations as well, but we won't cover those in this post. . ๐ŸšMinimal support shoes are appropriate for lower impact activities like yoga and weightlifting. Chuck taylors are one of the oldest weightlifting shoes around. They offer a thin stable base with a feel akin to standing barefoot. . ⛵️Chucks can even work well for the occasional jumping and and short duration effort cardio. Given sufficient foot strength, stability, and mobility, training barefoot or with minimal support shoes can actually be beneficial. In addition to chucks there are many other minimal shoe options. The new balance minimus pictured above are one of them. . ๐Ÿš…Weightlifting shoes provide a raised heel and thus decrease ankle mobility requirements for lifting. They can even help with hip mobility and torso positioning. Oly shoes are helpful for deeper squatting as well as Olympic lifts from the floor. . ⚓️Many people benefit from running shoes and more support when doing longer duration medium or high impact activities such as running or repetitive jumping. The purpose of a heel counter and running shoe design is to support the foot in gait and locomotion. Their malleable and adaptive soles are not ideal for weightlifting. . ๐Ÿš€If your workout consists of multiple parts and you might run 2 miles, squat, and deadlift, the argument could be made to wear 3 different pairs of shoes. It isn't uncommon for gym enthusiasts to switch shoes between during a workout. . ๐Ÿš‡The key here is to find the shoe that's right for your foot and your goals. . #TeddyTalksShoes #StrengthCoachTherapy #strongfeet #foothealth #foundation #resilient #strength #muscle #physiotherapy #physio #unconventional #strengthtraining #sportsperformance #strengthandconditioning #prehab #posture #osteopathy #bodyhack #stretching #athlete #chiropractic #training #motivation
